Magdalen Medical Publishing (MMP) is an agile and fast-growing digital publisher of independent, open-access medical news and education for the online healthcare professional (HCP) community. MMP is dedicated to providing busy HCPs with trustworthy, cutting-edge updates in their field in an accessible manner across a range of digital platforms. We produce a wide variety of digital media content for our world-leading online video journals, which cover a range of pathologies including hematology, oncology and dementia. Employees will receive 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, as well as enrolment in the company pension plan. We are a friendly, sociable team, organizing after-work meet-ups and summer/winter team days.

The Role
MMP is seeking a Publishing Manager who will take responsibility for leading publication planning and development of high-quality and engaging content for all journals at MMP, working with the Publisher, General Manager and our Expert Editorial Board to maintain and grow MMP as an industry-leading digital publisher.

The successful candidate will have considerable editorial experience in medical journal publishing and have a detailed understanding of the editorial process, with an eye for accuracy, quality and relevant content. Line management experience is desirable but those without will still be considered if they have sufficient editorial experience, and experience in training staff is preferred. A life science degree is required. You will have excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills, and be highly organised and efficient with strong problem-solving abilities. Most of all we are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm and passion for excellence in communicating the latest scientific ideas.

Responsibilities include:

  • Owning and manage the MMP multi-channel publishing programme across all media, helping to develop the journals. In order to achieve this, you will need to continually develop your scientific knowledge in relevant disease areas.
  • Leading implementation of state-of-the-art new products, workflows and services to maintain and grow MMP as an industry-leading digital publisher
  • Reviewing content to ensure scientific balance, accuracy and relevance to our audience is maintained across all journals and approving all content prior to publication.
  • Proactively managing MMP relationships with our Expert Editorial Boards and medical societies
  • Managing the editorial team workflow to deliver the publication plan according to milestones in the publishing calendar, including onsite management and attending international medical conferences (mainly in EU and USA).
  • Oversee planning and implementation of marketing campaigns

The Role

MMP is seeking an Editorial PA to work at the heart of the Editorial Team to optimise team efficiency and organisation, alongside the Publisher, GM and editorial team.

The role offers varied, interesting and fast-paced work within a high-performing, stimulating and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work on a variety of tasks at the same time whilst maintaining high standards, including coping with unpredictable volumes of work, busy periods and tight deadlines. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail and confidence in dealing with a wide variety of people. You will be proficient in Microsoft Office platforms (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint) and keen to learn new digital skills.

Most of all, we are looking for someone with a flexible can-do approach, self-motivation and a willingness to learn. This is a fantastic role for someone passionate about providing outstanding administrative role – and taking real ownership of their work – in a successful, growing company.

As Editorial PA your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Diary management:

  • Organise team and senior management meetings, including minute taking and following up actions where appropriate
  • Organise meetings and responses to partners
  • Arrange training, team building and brainstorming events
  • Use initiative to make considered judgements when juggling the demands placed on the schedule, including where plans may need to change at short notice
  • Act as the first point of contact for visitors, enquiries, telephone calls and postal correspondence, diverting such correspondence to other staff where appropriate.
  • Organise efficiently the arrangements for meetings, including arranging appropriate catering for meetings held in the office and other venues as appropriate.

Project management:

  • Ensure financial flow – including chasing POs, making payments, preparing invoices and liaising with accounts
  • Maintain project status reports and update senior team on the progress of all projects on a regular basis
  • Help to ensure an efficient publishing workflow
  • Maintain, and improve as appropriate, record-keeping and filing systems.
  • Support the management of projects, including organizing and booking any travel/meeting rooms and staffing required
  • Plan and manage award entries
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals
  • Materials management – including banners, brochures, presentation and exhibition booths

Congress travel logistics:

  • Make complex travel arrangements for UK and international travel, including arrangements for visas where necessary.
  • Schedule and book crew, write crew briefs and call sheets, and schedule interviews and registrations for Journal content
  • Regularly update the congress calendar and report to the senior team on upcoming events

Digital and social media support:

  • Update the website for upcoming events
  • Database management, including updating mailing lists and helping manage the company’s email newslettters.
  • Day-to-day management of social media channels – including Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.

The Role

Magdalen Medical Publishing (MMP) is seeking a Project Manager to join the team in London and manage the organization, logistics and delivery of publishing projects for our cutting-edge online video journal platforms. The ideal candidate is independent, organized and pro-active, and passionate about delivering projects to a high standard in a timely manner. They will also be keen to further develop their project management skills in the digital publishing sector.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Educated to undergraduate degree level, ideally in a life sciences area
  • Previous project management experience
  • Highly organised with great attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to plan ahead and work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A pro-active, independent attitude
  • Confident in the use of Microsoft Office platforms (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint) and other typical office software; ability to pick up new digital skills across a variety of platforms
  • Keen to work in the digital medical publishing sector

Responsibilities

The Project Manager’s main duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Managing international medical congress attendance and coverage – this includes regularly updating the congress calendar and updating the team on upcoming events, organizing and booking logistics, scheduling and booking crews, organizing POs and payment, writing crew briefs and call sheets, and scheduling interviews and registrations, among other tasks
  • Ensuring the smooth delivery of work – this includes making sure deadlines are met, booking in team member’s time for video production and review, ensuring invoices and reports are delivered, and maintaining project status reports and updating the team on the progress of projects on a regular basis, among other tasks
  • Keeping project folders and databases up to date with the most recent documents, ensuring the wider team can access files efficiently
  • Ensuring there is an efficient production workflow, including video, website updates and text content
  • Organizing team meetings, planning actions and following up to ensure tasks are complete
  • Planning and managing award entries
  • Management of digital PR activities, including our LinkedIn profile and social media channels
  • Liaising between different teams and members to ensure there are no diary conflicts for project plans
  • Ensuring financial flow – this includes making payments, dealing with invoices, bookkeeping and liaising with accounts
  • Database management, including the journal’s mailing list
  • Preparing grant proposals
  • Materials management – banners, brochures, presentations, exhibition booths
